Sometimes writing dialogue between characters can be tough, so we’re going to practice with characters you know pretty well. First, choose two of your favorite novels.

Then, choose a favorite character from each of these novels. Maybe you like Alaska from John Green’s Looking for Alaska and Katniss from The Hunger Games. These are two pretty hard core girls.

Have these two characters meet for coffee and write their ensuing conversation. Or, if there is no way they’d meet for coffee, what if they just had a car crash, one of them rammed the other one. Write that conversation.

Regardless of the situation, try to capture their voices, the cadence of their speech.
